History

The history of STANLEY® Tools began in 1843 when Frederick T. Stanley founded The Stanley Works in New Britain, Connecticut. Over the years, Stanley has introduced a number of important innovations, including the first steel measuring ring in 1930, the universal knife in 1936 and the PowerLock® measuring ring in 1963. In 2010, STANLEY® Tools merged with Black & Decker to become Stanley Black & Decker, a global leader in tools and storage systems.
